User Information

• Virtual4K is a clearinghouse for links to (mostly 4000-specific) information. Most of the links on this page came from there.
• The Official Support Site has user guides, quick setup guides, and the like.
• ReplayTV Advanced FAQ is a great resource for information on pre-4000 models; it hasn't been updated since the introduction of the 4000, however.
• Honus's 4000 FAQ is a good start at a 4000 FAQ. Unfortunately, it's not actually possible to create an account to make additions/changes and hasn't been for at least 3 months (first reported 20 January 2002); if it were, this twiki probably wouldn't exist.

Discussion Group

• The AVS Forum is a message board dedicated to the ReplayTV and ShowStopper PVRs. Both user-level and highly-technical discussions are appropriate. Much of the information here was first discussed there.

Software

• RTVPatch is used for upgrading harddrives; extract_rtv, allowing reading or writing files on a ReplayTV filesystem, is available at the same site.
• ReplayPC 0.3 is a command-line tool for downloading guide and video data. The current source tree (and 0.4 if it's ever released) is a library and a comprehensive suite of command-line tools providing full interfaces to HTTPFS, RDDNS, HttpReplayGuide and most of the RnsProtocol.
• ReplayServer is an Apache/PHP system for streaming data to a ReplayTV4000?.
• GuideParser is the original software for parsing guide snapshot data.
• SwapDV is a Java program for archiving and streaming video data; evidentally future versions will support more protocols than just the ReplayTV ones.
  • No longer maintained, use DVarchive below.
• DVarchive is the successor to SwapDV and uses the base code from that project with several additional enhancements.

Internals Information

• Ian Prest has another description of the RNS Protocol, including software for supplying Canadian guide data; this is based on the 3000 & the 3.0 software.

Dear Sirs, As I believe some of the most intelligent folks in the world dwell in creating all of this wonderful technology for all of us to enjoy. I appreciate and applaud all of the efforts of the work I have read and been able to use such as replay pc etc. For months now I have been involved in trying to archive some movies that have been downloaded from my replay tv via my network in my home with the replay pc software. That ware an the folks that created it are geniuses. I thank you for that as well. WHat I am having a problem with is that when I dnload it to my sony digital film studio processor with dvd burner an using the ware DVD Movie Factory 2 by Ulead to author the dvd. I made a few correct but now aLL I seem to get are "cant convert video file errors that stop the burning process. I am getting the movies from a dtv satellite and then transferring via network to my computer with a dvd burner. COuld anyone help an old hippie that is brain dead from all of this some pointers on making it work. I am not evev adding chapters to the dvd. Just trying to archive some of the good movies for my personal enjoyment. Any help from anyone would certainly be appreciated as I have been at this tooo long. I will even be glad to pay for help that will get me going in the right direction. Anything at this point would help. Anyone with a 4k ReplayTV been able to use the extract_rtv program successfully to view/extract mpegs? I tried using it last night in order to undelete some shows after my machine crashed (after reboot, a big chunk of my scheduled shows and recorded programs had vanished.) Upon loading it, all I got was gibberish for the second partition programs listing - but I was able to list the first partition files fine.
